Contraindication
Masks with magnetic components are contraindicated for use by patients if they, or persons in close physical contact with them while using the mask, have the following:
- Active medical implants that interact with magnets (e.g., pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs),
neurostimulators, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts, insulin/infusion pumps) - Metallic implants/objects containing ferromagnetic material (e.g. aneurysm clips/flow disruption devices, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, implants to restore hearing or balance with implanted magnets, ocular implants, metal splinters in the eye)
Warning
Keep the mask magnets at a safe distance of at least 150 mm from implants or medical devices that may be adversely affected by magnetic interference. This applies to you and anyone in close physical contact with your mask. The magnets are located in the frame and lower headband clips and have a magnetic field strength of up to 400 mT. When the mask is worn, the magnets keep the mask in place, but they can be accidentally released while sleeping. Implants/medical devices, including those listed under contraindications, may be adversely affected if they change function under external magnetic fields or contain ferromagnetic materials that attract/repel magnetic fields (some metal implants, e.g. metal contact lenses, dental implants, metal skull plates, screws, drill hole covers and bone replacement devices). Consult your doctor and the manufacturer of your implant/other medical device for information on the effects of magnetic fields.
